Teaching English in Prague Czech Republic
Prague is a city of bells. Known for centuries as “The City of a Hundred Spires”, there is a church on every corner, with chimes to mark the passage of eternity each day. This is the city where Jan Hus began the Reformation by standing up to the church authorities of the Holy Roman Empire.
It is also the city of Franz Kafka, a writer whose work to this day cannot be categorized as anything but brilliant, moving . . . and strange. The artistic temperament of the denizens of Prague is well-known, and well-deserved. Antonin Dvork wrote his Slavonic Dances here a hundred-and-fifty-year ago. Opera and orchestras flourish, and admission prices are similar to a trip to the multiplex cinema back home (though munching on popcorn is discouraged during a Beethoven sonata). The natives of Prague love their music so much that they have erected a three-story metronome, one that keeps time; it takes a team of twelve husky men two hours each week to wind it.
Pilsner beer was invented in Prague; most residents remain in good health (and good humor) by drinking their daily ration of grain from a foaming mug. After a few organic toasts with the natives, you’ll be well-advised to hop on one of the many trolleys that ply the streets on rails, instead of trying to weave your way home on foot. Those cobblestone streets can be slippery!
Railroad travel is a cinch from Prague to anywhere in Central and Eastern Europe; and you’ll want to take advantage of the inexpensive train fare during your studies and after you have your TEFL certificate, to visit a countryside bursting with fresh produce, fresh faces, and fresh experiences.
